This Privacy Policy explains how Midnight Chart ("we," "us," "our") collects, uses, stores, and protects your information when you use our app.

1. Information We Collect

Account information: When you create an account, we collect your email address. Your email must be verified before your account is activated.

Birth data: To generate your natal chart, we collect your date of birth, time of birth, and place of birth (used to derive latitude and longitude). This information is required to perform astrological calculations and cannot be used to generate a chart without it.

Usage data: We may collect basic technical information such as device type, browser type, and app interaction data to maintain and improve the service.

2. How We Use Your Information

• To calculate and generate your personal natal chart, including planetary, node, and asteroid placements
• To maintain your account and authenticate your access
• To provide the features and content within the app
• To monitor for abuse and maintain the security of our systems

3. How Your Natal Chart Is Calculated and Stored

Your birth data is sent, at the time of your first chart request only, to a third-party astrological calculation service acting as our data processor, solely for the purpose of computing your chart. That provider does not retain your data beyond what is necessary to return the calculation to us (see Section 5 for third-party details).

Once your natal chart has been calculated, it is stored in our systems and is not recalculated or re-sent to any third-party service again. This means your birth chart data, once generated, remains fixed and consistent across every future use of the app.

Retention period: Your birth chart data, once generated, is retained for fifty (50) years from the date it was created. If you request deletion of your account and associated data, that request will be processed immediately, in accordance with Section 6 below.

4. Data Security

We take the following measures to protect your information:

• All birth data and account access are protected by authentication — you must be logged in to access your own chart data
• Row Level Security policies ensure each user can only access their own stored data, not other users' information
• API credentials used to calculate charts are stored server-side only and are never exposed in the app itself
• Automated rate limiting and abuse-monitoring systems help prevent unauthorized or excessive access to our systems
• New accounts require email verification before activation, and we use bot-detection (CAPTCHA) on sign-up to prevent automated account creation

No method of electronic storage or transmission is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security, but we are committed to using reasonable industry-standard safeguards.

5. Third-Party Service Providers

We use the following categories of third-party services:

• Astrological calculation provider: processes birth data (date, time, location) at the moment of chart creation only, to return planetary and house placement data to us. [INSERT SPECIFIC PROVIDER NAME ONCE FINALIZED]

We do not sell your personal information to third parties.

6. Your Rights

• Request access to the personal data we hold about you
• Request correction of inaccurate data
• Request deletion of your account and associated data
• Object to or restrict certain processing of your data

Note on retention and deletion: While we retain natal chart data for 50 years by default as described in Section 3, you may request deletion of your account and associated data at any time by contacting us at [INSERT CONTACT EMAIL]. Deletion requests are processed immediately upon verification of your identity as the account holder, regardless of the default retention period stated above.

7. Children's Privacy

Midnight Chart is not directed at children under 13 (or the applicable minimum age in your jurisdiction), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If we become aware that we have collected data from a child without appropriate consent, we will delete it.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify users of material changes through the app or via email, and will update the "Last updated" date above.
